Songs for the 2020s

Committee Room No. 9

Thursday 12th March 2026

Show time: 5:00pm

Through comedy songs and poems, Majk Stokes (it’s pronounced ‘Mike’), once described as “Bill Bailey’s good-looking younger brother”, uses his sharp but gentle humour to explore some of the issues that face us all today, such as computers, coffee, politics, AI and social media, the environment and Donald Trump… and finds the funny side. (There is one, honest!)
Majk Stokes is a comedy singer-songwriter, poet, multi-instrumentalist, environmentalist and Quaker, based in Edinburgh. His subject matter takes in everything from archaeology and deep ecology to science fiction and superheroes, and his style might be described as a blend of Tom Lehrer, Bob Dylan, Bill Bailey, Brian Bilston and Billy Bragg – but do strain off all those B’s or they’ll give you indigestion.

“The combined styles and wit of Bob Dylan and Tom Lehrer” – Stagewhispers, Adelaide

“His original songs are both witty and poignant” – British Theatre Guide
