No, I don't mean go and see Tom Cruise's latest blockbuster but for those of you who may be interested. It really is the pits.
What I am saying is, this Glasgow Live International Comedy Festival, go out and see some of the newer acts on the scene. Being one of them, I'm a obviously going to be biased but there are some truly talented comics bubbling away under the shadow of the big name stars.
I'll list some of them at the end and none of them will thank me for it because who actually reads these things anyway? In fact, if you are one of the few who have bothered to read this far, give it a share, spread the word and let's drum up some support for stand up comedy's little guys!
The BIG names, you know who they are, will all sell out their theatre venues, everyone will make a killing, DVD specials will be recorded and their stars will shine on, ever brighter.
This while the new guys sweat and stress ticket sales, spend countless hours handing out flyers they've paid for out of their own pockets and putting up posters that'll likely be taken down within thirty seconds of them going up. Not to mention, as we are all too aware, the number of Smurf colonies needlessly destroyed to produce the Blu-tac that'll be wasted during the months of February and March.
Do it for Smurfette, guys!!
The Glasgow Live International Comedy Festival is growing, absolutely. The number of shows is increasing, he'll yea. The numbers attending shows is on the rise, you bet. Meaning we are all in this together.
Audiences want to laugh and we, the comedians, want to make you laugh but to do so to our full potential, we need bustling full rooms, full of supportive energy. WE NEED YOU, to support the little guy.
Or you could just go see Tom Cruise's latest blockbuster.
